I think one of the best way to get started is to share some of my favorite books and stories that I love for my own family. I chose three different categories: imaginative, artistic, and moral. These are the three things that I am constantly looking for in children's books and here are my favorite examples for each that my kids are just loving this year. I also included an Amazon affiliate link for each book, so if you want to check them out over at Amazon feel free to click the links or use your favorite book store. You can buy them new, used, or digital, but all of these recommendations are 100% from the heart, so so please check them out.
Imaginative Favorite
I don't think there's any book both my son and daughter loved more than Room on the Broom, or I enjoyed reading to them! It's a creative story with witches, dragons, magic, and almost a monster. Perfectly age appropriate and good for halloween and all year long this is an easy favorite.

This has been a favorite of ours for years now, and every time we put it away someone asks for it by the next month. This is a great imaginative journey through all of the fun fantasy elements that are 100% age appropriate for little kids.
Artistic
I LOVE the art in Monster Needs His Sleep, I think the illustrator is amazing and the story and rhyme are fantastic. This is a visually stunning bedtime storybook that mixes in lots of humor and fun.

I picked this book up on three different trips to Target, it looked so good and the art was fantastic but each time I put it back because I just wasn't sure. The last time I said what the heck, ran back, and grabbed it. I've been really happy ever since.
Moral
This is something that I know can be a little much for young kids, but even when my son was wasn't even a year old yet and my daughter was still just a little girl herself I really loved the message in Little Blue Truck for them. It's all about being kind to others and that really resonated with me. The golden rule comes through as clear as can be in a story filled with farm animals and trucks, what more could kids love.

When my daughter was potty training, just like every other child, she had quite a few accidents at daycare. It was tough, but even worse at that time she was transitioning to a new room where she was the youngest one and of course she had an accident. One of the older boys started calling her names and I was mortified, angry, and felt like a complete failure as a parent. Lilly started to become seriously introverted and it was our first experience with bullying at age 3 :( Thankfully Little Blue Truck deals with this so nicely for children, it's a great example of a creative book with a strong moral message, I loved it and we used this example of being kind and nice. Also on another positive note after talking to the teachers they took it really seriously and everyone is now friends :)
That's it and thanks so much for taking a look!
